Fabulous sounding Pre
I recently spent a full day reviewing pretty much all of UAD's pre collection in demo mode; what a fascinating exercise that was. I already own several of the Neve models, which have become indispensable to my studio.
In this case, I was looking for something to complement a growing bass guitar collection; something that would let me record DI. I just want to enhance the natural character of the bass, be it a vintage P, a jazz, or something modern with Bartolinis. I can skip amp models these days, good as they are, because a nicely driven pre into LA-2 gets me everything I need.
For the vintage guitars, I found UA 610A the standout. Drive it a bit, and it really is an awesome, gorgeous sound, with a sweet, slightly grainy warmth to it.
Great for vocals too.
For more modern sounds, I slightly prefer the API, which is clean, chunky, dimensional, and which has a beautiful natural compression to it when pushed.
But this 610A now lives on my unison input for all things bass. It is also great on vocals, after the event, or for tracking. Give it a try, listen carefully, and see what *you* think. These things are somewhat subjective.

The 610-A plugin is the Secret Sinatra Sauce
I don't use the 610-B very much, however the 610-A plugin is pretty much my go-to for any kind of vintage Sinatra type sound. The way the voice breaks up on the peaks is really familiar and timeless, especially if you're a fan of Frank Sinatra. You will have to carefully set your gain staging BEFORE entering the plugin, and then take care to use the impedance and mic / line settings appropriately, but if you do it right, you can get a vocal track that's pretty reminiscent of Sinatra's recordings. I don't know if the 610 hardware equivalent was actually used in those recordings, but just that it sounds very close to it, to my ear.

Legendary
My absolute favorite tube preamp.
I have it as hardware and as a plug in both fantastic and with me in every production. I love the knobs and it sounds amazing.

UA 610 Collection
Great having both the 610A and 610B in the arsenal. These two, along with Neve 1073 and 88RS are providing a lot of versatility in tracking options.

Can't live without this
I use this for drums, especially for snare. It has something I can't get with other plugins I have used or tried over the years.

1960s Heaven
The 610A gives you 'that' sound. It is unmistakably that 60's American sound you hear from The Beach Boys, The Doors, or any other record from that era. This is the holy grail of tube sounds. If you know that sound and want that sound it is simply breathtaking. I've never heard a tube emulation sound as great as this and the V76.

Pretty good
This plugin is definitely a good one. Does make your sound better and is very easy to use. There's a huge difference btw before and after.

Pretty good
Not sure I would buy these, especially with UA’s crazy prices (even on sale). Got them with the heritage bundle. They sound nice and give you options and help add some weight. At a good price ($30-$50) I’d recommend.

Used a lot
I see many different opinions about this one, some like/hate the sound for being either transparent, or characteristic :P
I really like the 610A for adding warmth and a pleasant bass boost to just about anything.

Sounds amazing
Compared to my previous interface, which was a highly rated one, this sounds amazing with the UA 610 in the unison position. Didn’t know my vocals could sound that good doing recording at home. Worth the switch to UA.

I had to buy it, didn't want it.
This was part of the Apollo Heritage edition. I haven't tried it because I wasn't interested in it. And because I didn't know I bought it. UA is so annoying. It lists you all of the ca. 200 plugins, and you have no idea of which of them are demos and which you own. And scroll 200 plugins. Are you kidding me??? All I wanted to have, was C-Vox. The rest I cannot recommend. And I don't need the rest for what I record with my fantastic Sound Devices MixPre-3 II.
